There are hundreds of functions and formulas, which are used to create a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. It is very important that beginner Excel programmers should learn how to use them as quickly as possible.

One of these functions is the LARGE Function. The LARGE function in Microsoft Excel returns the k-Th largest value within the set of data. Thus, the user can use this function in selecting the value, which is based on the given relative standing. For instance, the user can absolutely use this function to return the runner-up, third-place or even the highest score. The syntax of the LARGE function is 'LARGE(array,k)'. In this formula, the array argument is considered as the range or array of data that the user wanted to determine k-Th largest value. K is considered the position within the cell range or array of data, which have to be returned.

REMARKS

• If the array or range is empty, the Excels LARGE function returns the #NUM! error value.
• If K is value is greater than the amount of data points or if K is equal to zero, the LARGE function returns the #NUM! error value.

NOTE

If n is considered the number of the given data points, the LARGE function in Microsoft Excel or the 'LARGE(array,1)' definitely returns the largest value thus 'LARGE(array,n)' returns its smallest value.
